Matador Oil and Gas
Matador Oil and Gas, with its expansive resources and expertise, occupies a leadership role in a variety of petroleum industry activities. Matador funds land acquisition, testing, exploration, and development of oil and gas resources. Its exploration activities are in the west and coastal regions of Texas, as well as the Barnett Shale region of north central Texas. The company also provides capital for selected investments in mineral interests and existing production operations and acquires production throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Alpine Oil and Gas
Sowell & Co. formed an oil and gas property acquisition partnership with two petroleum engineers beginning in 2004. Sowell & Co. had a business relationship with one of these engineers from being a co-investor with his previous employer in 2000. The partnership buys producing oil and gas properties with the goal of improving existing production, lowering costs, and exploiting any non producing acreage or up-hole or down-hole opportunities.
In 2006, Alpine purchased, financed, and resold a large acquisition in South Louisiana. From an initial cash investment of $12.8 million which was recouped within seven months, the properties were sold for over $50 million.
In 2008, a group of onshore Mississippi oil properties were purchased with $10.7 million of equity and $37 million of debt. All equity was repaid within 12 months. The properties were ultimately sold for $113 million. The partnership focuses on acquisitions in the $50 to $150 million range.
